Whitemarsh Island - Bertha Sparks Shuman, 87, died Sunday, May 8, 2011 under the care of Embracing Hospice in Snellville, GA.
Mrs. Shuman was born in Bulloch County, GA on December 2, 1923, the daughter of the late Jack W. and Mamie Turner Sparks. She was a longtime employee of International Paper where she retired at the age of 70 as an Inspector. She was involved with the Thunderbolt Senior Center and attended The First Baptist Church of the Islands where she was active in the Good Neighbors Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Shuman was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Lloyd George Shuman. She is survived by her son, Lee Edward Shuman and wife Anne Smith Shuman; granddaughters, Shannon Shuman Martin and husband Matt and Angie Shuman Hutson and husband Cliff; great-grandchildren, William Lee Martin, Callum Murphy Martin, Ansley Anne Hutson and Emma Reese Hutson; brothers, Gene and Ray Sparks and sisters, Myrtis Williams, Faye S. Enzor, Mildred S. Mayo and Melba S. Million.
Visitation: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
Graveside Funeral Service: 11:45 a.m. Thursday at the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
